Once you are seated comfortably in Amy’s office, you will be asked how your injury occurred and what aggravates and relieves your symptoms, as well as what your goals are.
Ankle range of motion will be assessed in non-weight bearing and more importantly, in weight bearing to determine if the tightness is in the muscles or in the joint capsule. With chronic problems, it is usually in the joint capsule. If the joint capsule is tight, a manual technique will be performed, with measurement directly before and after to determine its effectiveness. To maintain as much gained mobility as possible, a simple home exercise will be assigned until the next visit.
Balance will be assessed and addressed if needed, to reduce the chance of future ankle aprains. Strengthening will be added as needed.
Acuhealth, ultrasound, cupping and/or tape may be recommended to speed up symptomatic relief and to promote a strong nerve signal to the muscles. A strong nerve signal means that the most muscle fibres receive the message, which may lead to less of a need for formal strengthening exercises. 😉
Come in for an assessment or watch for the next blog for a video to determine whether you need a manual technique.
