Do you have jaw pain which is worse after eating hard foods? Come in for Physiotherapy to learn about alignment of your neck and jaw so we can reduce your pain. Here is an overview of what to expect:
Visit #1: Amy will assess your neck and jaw alignment. Since your jaw can only align properly to reduce stress on the temporomandibular joint when your neck is aligned, you will likely learn one or two exercises to correct your neck alignment. Each exercise will be demonstrated and the rationale will be explained in detail and you will receive feedback on your technique. If needed, an exercise to correct shoulder blade alignment will be initiated. An Acuhealth treatment may be recommended as part of your treatment to relieve muscle tension and pain.
Visit #2: The exercises from your first visit will be reviewed and perfected and if you have a grasp of good neck alignment, one more exercise will be added to improve tracking of the TMJ. You will receive a list of strategies to reduce stress on the TMJ and have the opportunity to ask questions. Another Acuhealth treatment can be done.
Visit #3 (if needed): One of the neck exercises from your first visit will be progressed, if ready. If Acuhealth is helping, it can be repeated.
Most people need 3-5 visits and then can continue on their own with their exercises as needed.
